A class to teach adults mental health first aid will be offered at the Ocala Police Department (402 S Pine Ave) on Friday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Similar to how CPR helps an individual experiencing a heart attack, mental health first aid helps an adult assist anyone experiencing a mental health-related crisis. Through the course, attendees will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help individuals in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and options for additional help.
The class is being taught by two certified instructors and is an opportunity to practice action plans in a variety of situations through role-playing, scenarios and activities for those experiencing panic attacks, suicidal behavior, acute psychosis, or reactions to trauma.
