Jackknifed semi ruptures gas tank and blocks all northbound lanes of I-75

A semi-truck jackknifed and blocked all three northbound lanes of Interstate 75 on Monday afternoon.

A semi-truck jackknifed on Interstate 75 shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday and blocked all northbound lanes of traffic near the exit for State Road 40.

Crews from Ocala Fire Rescue responded to calls at 12:46 p.m. of a single-vehicle accident on I-75 near exit 352 for State Road 40. When they arrived, they found the semi facing west and blocking all northbound traffic, a report states.

Firefighters secured the area and assessed the driver of the truck, who wasn’t injured. They then worked to contain a fuel spill from a saddle tank that ruptured during the crash, the report says.

Firefighters estimated that 80-100 gallons of fuel leaked from the ruptured tank and the State Warning Point, which monitors major incidents and emergencies, was notified, the report says.

A battalion chief and crews from Engine 4, Rescue 4 and Engine 6 responded to the crash, as did Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the report says.
