Elmo “Sal” Salmon, 90, of Ocala, Florida, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 in the home he shared with his loving wife Cora.
Sal was born in Marimar, Cuba on June 3rd, 1928. He was the eldest of two sons born to Eldred and Asineth Salmon.E came to America at the age of 12. He graduated high school, attended trade school, and served in the armed forces. he excelled at handiwork and was often asked to remodel kitchens and convert basements into playrooms. he performed these task effortlessly.
Mr. Salmon was a dedicated employee of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) for 30 years. He began his career as a driver, but soon advanced to a supervisory position. During this time he married his first wife and was blessed with a son in 1970. After retiring from the MTA, Sal relocated to Ocala, Florida in 1994. He later divorced and wed Cora Edwards on May 3, 2005.
Sal enjoyed horse racing whether he was at the racetrack, or watching simulcast events at the OBS with friends. He also had a deep love for music, as evidenced by his vast record collection of artist including Jimmy Butler, Sarah Vaughn, and Aaron Neville.
Elmo Salmon is survived by his wife Cora Salmon of Ocala, Fl; along with his son Scott Salmon, and daughter-in -law Theresa of Far Rockaway, NY; his brothers Robert Salmon of Laurel, MD; Michael Salmon of Trenton, NJ., and Steven Salmon of Far Rockaway, NY.
He was preceded in death by parents Eldred and Asineth Salmon, and brother Randell Salmon.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Roberts Funeral Home 6241 SW State Rd. 200, at 9:00 AM, with the funeral service to commence at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral.
