Ocala woman with score to settle nabbed after smashing window with angel decoration

Sherry Grant

An Ocala woman found herself behind bars Tuesday night after another woman claimed she smashed her window with a blue angel decoration.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for help at an apartment in the 2040 block of NW 43rd Street and when they arrived, the victim told them that an eyewitness attempted to speak with 42-year-old Sherry Grant to find out what was going on after she allegedly broke the window, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the damage to the window was estimated at $100.

The victim said the man let Grant into her home to settle the incident and she hid in a bedroom because she was scared. She said a verbal altercation broke out between the man and Grant. And then Grant entered her bedroom and allegedly hit her in the mouth, the report says.

Deputies noted that the victim had a swollen lip and she claimed that Grant also broke her glasses, which were valued at $200.

Deputies then spoke with the man who saw Grant allegedly break the window with the angel decoration. The man said he and Grant were involved in a previous relationship and when he let her in the house, they got into an argument. He claimed that Grant also broke a glass table valued at $75 and he said he saw her go into the victim’s bedroom but didn’t see anything that occurred in there.

Grant initially had left the residence but she returned about 30 minutes later and deputies responded back to the home to speak with her. She claimed she didn’t break the window and denied striking the victim in the mouth. She said she had come to the residence to “settle an issue” she had with the eyewitness, the report says.

Grant, who lives at 5901 NW 57th Ct. in Ocala, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with battery and damaging property/criminal mischief. She was released early Wednesday morning on $2,000 bond and her next court date hasn’t yet been set.
