Ocklawaha man allegedly admits to killing his mother and dog before torching their home

Colby Glen Larue

An Ocklawaha man accused of killing his mother and then setting their house on fire is behind bars in the Marion County Jail.

Multiple units from Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the blaze shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday and when they arrived, they found the home at 16663 SE 53rd St. in Ocklawaha fully involved in flames. Part of the structure had collapsed and a cache of ammunition was “cooking off” inside the structure. And after the blaze was fully extinguished, firefighters found a deceased victim inside the charred residence, a report says.

Marion County firefighters from eight engines and three rescue units battled a blaze at an Ocklawaha residence on Wednesday morning. A victim believed to Angela Limbaugh was found inside the home at 16663 SE 53rd St. Her son, 22-year-old Colby Glen Larue, turned himself in at a nearby Marion County sheriff’s office and allegedly admitted to killing her and setting their home on fire.

Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office then responded to the incident. A short time later they were told that 22-year-old Colby Glen Larue had showed up at the sheriff’s Forest District Office, at 16000 E Silver Springs Blvd., allegedly claiming to have just killed his mother, Angela Limbaugh, and set their home on fire with her inside the residence. Larue was detained and detectives responded to the office to speak with him.

Larue said he had been watching YouTube videos online and had become paranoid about someone attempting to rape or harm his mother. He said he armed himself with a pump shotgun but it was inoperable, so he then took a 9mm semi-automatic pistol from his waistband and was pacing the ground floor of the residence, “presumably looking for the individuals who were coming to harm the victim,” the report says.

Larue allegedly told detectives that his mother woke up and came downstairs and “he shot her twice in the head and she fell down,” the report says, adding that he also claimed to have shot his bulldog twice and then left the gun inside the house.

Larue allegedly told detectives that he “killed his mother because he was protecting her from individuals who were supposedly coming to harm her.” He said he set fire to his mattress using a lighter and then got into a rowboat and rowed across a lake to a house where a bonfire was going, the report says.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies and crews from Marion County Fire Rescue responded to a fire at an Ocklawaha residence on Wednesday morning where ammunition was going off and a deceased victim was later discovered.

Larue said the people at that house told him to leave, so he ran into the woods, shirtless. He said he came up to the Winn-Dixie near the sheriff’s district office and spoke to a homeless man with an eyepatch who gave him a shirt. He said he then went to the sheriff’s office to turn himself in, the report says.

Larue was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with homicide and first degree arson of a dwelling with people present. He is being held on no bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set.
