Reddick man with long record jailed after trespassing at Salvation Army facility

DeShawn W. Smith

A Reddick man with an extensive criminal background was arrested Sunday morning after he was spotted at a Salvation Army facility in Ocala.

An Ocala Police officer saw 26-year-old DeShawn W. Smith walking on the property and knew that he had been trespassed from the Salvation Army in the past (July 1, 2016). Ocala Police had received multiple calls about Smith returning to the property but he would always leave before officers arrived, a police report states.

The officer confirmed Smith’s identity by his Florida identification card and also confirmed that he’d been trespassed from the property in the past.

Smith was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with trespass after warning. He is being held on $50 bond and is due in court on July 8 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge.

Smith is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail seven times – three last year alone – since September 2012. During those arrests he’s been charged with numerous drug offenses, uttering a forged instrument, open lodging within the city limits, possession of an open container of alcohol, possession of MDMA, open public lodging, simple domestic battery and multiple probation violations.
