An Ocala woman was jailed Tuesday after a distraught neighbor claimed that she pulled a gun on her and threatened to shoot her.
The neighbor, who lives in the 3000 block of NE 19th Avenue, told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that 21-year-old Toni Gabriella Echeverria was upset because she was talking on the phone with her boyfriend. She said that Echeverria walked from the end of her driveway, pulled a silver revolver with a brown handle from her waistband and stated, “Don’t think I won’t shoot you (expletive deleted),” a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the neighbor started taking photos on her phone and was in fear for her life.
After observing the photos and deciding they looked consistent with a real handgun, deputies spoke with Echeverria. She said she and her neighbor got into an argument because she was on the phone “popping off at the mouth.” She claimed to have pulled out a fake gun and said she was “playing around” by pointing it at her neighbor. And she said she left the “fake gun” inside her residence, though it wasn’t found during a search of the house.
Echeverria, who lives at 3335 NE 19th Ave., was taken into custody and booked into the Marion County Jail. She was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and was being held on $2,000 bond. Her next court date is July 23 at 9 a.m.
Echeverria also was arrested on April 11, 2017 and released from jail on Feb. 23, 2018. In that arrest, she was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, having no valid driver’s license, attaching a license plate not assigned to a vehicle, possession of marijuana more than 20 grams, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance (unarmed), grand theft of a motor vehicle, petit theft and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officers with wanton disregard of safety to persons or property.
