Face cream-toting Ocala man arrested on multiple charges after refusing to leave Target

An Ocala man with an extensive criminal record was arrested Tuesday after Ocala Police officers were called to a local Target store.

When officers arrived at the store, located at 2000 SW College Rd., an asset protection manager said he was going to ask a man later identified as 41-year-old Justin Kraig Devillere to leave the store. He returned a few minutes and later and said Devillere refused to leave, a police report states.

Justin Kraig Devillere, 41, was arrested this past Tuesday at Target after he refused to leave the store, located at 2000 SW College Rd.

Officers then made contact with Devillere, who was given a trespass order. It also was determined that Devillere was wanted on felony warrants out of Montgomery County, Ohio for escape and firearms offenses, the report says.

While Devillere was detained, officers observed surveillance video footage of him removing a small box of CeraVe face cream valued at $22.99. He then turned away from the camera and moved around in the aisles. And the asset protection manager was then seen making contact with Devillere as he asks him to leave the store, the report says.

Once the asset protection manager leaves the aisle, Devillere was seen removing his backpack from his shoulder and unsnapping the top of it. He then allegedly removed the same white box from underneath his shirt and placed it inside the top of the backpack. He then closed the backpack and continued to walk around inside the store, the report says.

Devillere eventually moves through the aisles and is off-camera for about 45 seconds before being confronted by the officers. They searched his backpack and found a substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, as well as a pack of needles, one of which had been used and another that tested positive for heroin residue, the report says.

Officers searched Devillere and found a small plastic baggie in his left pocket that also field tested positive for heroin. The CeraVe face cream wasn’t located, so it’s unclear if Devillere hid it somewhere in the store while he was off the surveillance camera, the report says.

Devillere was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with retail petit theft, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on $6,500 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.

The Jail was unable to accept Devillere’s backpack so it was placed into evidence at the Ocala Police Department, along with a DVD of the Target surveillance tape and the suspected marijuana, heroin and needles. Devillere’s bicycle also was retrieved from the store and placed into evidence, the report says.

Devillere is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail eight times since April 2011. During those arrests, he’s faced a variety of drug and weapons charges, as well as charges for battery, petit theft, trespass after warning, stalking and lodging or sleeping in the open.
