Bird-flipping Ocala man accused of battering jobless woman

Sam Lee Arnold

An Ocala man was arrested after an altercation in which he allegedly called the victim explicit names, gave her the middle finger, and pushed her in the face multiple times.

Sam Lee Arnold, 55, was charged with domestic battery after the incident, which happened Tuesday at his residence on SE 33rd Street. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Arnold has always had an issue with alcohol and has been verbally abusive towards her as well, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said that when Arnold began to drink in the afternoon, he started calling her names using explicit language because she doesn’t have a job. She said she tried to avoid Arnold by going into other rooms and that she asked him to stop, but he waved a middle finger using his right hand and pushed her in the face near her nose, the report said.

The victim said she told Arnold to stop, but he used his right hand to push her in the face three more times. She said the fourth blow really hurt her nose. The deputy observed redness on the victim’s nose, and she said it was sensitive to the touch. The victim refused treatment for her injuries, according to the report.

The victim’s brother, who has been living with the couple for three months, was not at home during the incident. He told the deputy he’s seen Arnold use verbally abusive language towards his sister, but he has not witnessed any physical altercations. He said he confronted the Arnold and asked him to stop behaving inappropriately towards his sister, the report said.

Arnold said he didn’t put his hands on the victim in any way, and he denied using abusive language towards the victim. He was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on $250 bond. His next appearance in Marion County Court is scheduled for July 18.
