Belleview woman accused of hitting and scratching man in spat over cigarettes

Amber Leigh Thomas

A Belleview woman was arrested on a domestic battery charge Tuesday night after she allegedly scratched a man and hit him upside the head during an argument over cigarettes.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he had argued with Amber Leigh Thomas, 24, and walked out of the residence with Thomas following him. He said Thomas grabbed him and scratched him on his left arm. The victim said when he tried to walk away again, Thomas smacked him on the left side of his head/temple region, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy observed two scratches on the victim’s left arm but was unable to see any injuries on his left temple due to his hair. The victim said the incident took place while he was on the phone with the 911 operator, the report said.

Thomas told the deputy she was trying to stop the victim from attacking another person inside the house. When asked when that incident took place, Thomas first said it was an hour earlier and then said it was two hours earlier. She also couldn’t explain why she hadn’t notified law enforcement about the incident she claims took place, according to the report.

Thomas was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was being held Thursday on $500 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 30.
