Weirsdale man blows whopping .304 in breath test after DUI arrest

Stacey Lee Boyette

A Weirsdale man charged with drunk driving registered readings of .304 and .300 on a breath-alcohol test after being arrested Sunday afternoon.

Ocala Police were tipped off about a drunk driver leaving Ken’s Winghouse, 2145 E. Silver Springs Blvd., after drinking all day. The caller described the man and his pickup truck and provided the name “Francis Boyette” based on credit card information, according to the police report.

An OPD sergeant observed a maroon Ford F150 truck matching the description make a wide left turn from West Silver Springs Boulevard onto South Pine Avenue, almost hitting a vehicle during the process. The vehicle then began to drift between the inner travel and outer right travel lane of South Pine Avenue before the sergeant initiated a traffic stop as it was pulling into the IHOP restaurant at 1124 S. Pine Ave., the report said.

The driver instantly admitted to not having a license and was identified through the driver and vehicle information database (DAVID) as 47-year-old Stacey Lee Boyette, whose license is suspended. An OPD officer could smell alcohol on Boyette’s breath and noted his speech was slurred and his tongue was thick. Boyette said he left Ocala Regional Medical Center after visiting his mother, Francis Boyette, and had consumed “three tall boys of light beer.” He said he was on his way back to the hospital, according to the report.

Boyett failed a series of field sobriety exercises and was taken to the Marion County Jail, where his breath-alcohol level was so high he had to be taken to the Advent Health emergency room to be medically cleared before being booked, the report said.

A records search showed Boyette’s license was revoked in February 2000 and he has two prior DUI convictions and three arrests for driving with a suspended license. He was charged with a third offense of DUI and a third offense of driving with a suspended license. He was being held Tuesday on $6,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 13.
