Father of Parkland shooting victim to speak to school employees, community

The father of a Parkland shooting victim will speak to school employees and the community later this month.

Max Schachter, the father of Alex Schachter, one of 17 people killed in the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, will present to Marion County Public Schools employees at 2:00 p.m. and will address residents at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Ocala (2801 Southeast Maricamp Road).

Schachter will speak to full-time employees (those currently working under contract) at a mandatory 2 p.m. session on Monday, July 29. Schachter will share the story of his son and how the tragedy turned to triumph, allowing him to touch hearts and inspire listeners to help keep all students safe. MCPS district-issued employee ID badges are required for entry at the 2 p.m. presentation.

At 7 p.m. that evening, Schachter will share his perspective with the community.  Schachter will localize both presentations to appeal to district employees, teachers, parents, families, students, and anyone concerned with school security. Teachers attending will receive professional development points.

Admission to the 7:00 p.m. session is free and open to the public.  A private donation covers speaking expenses for both presentations which honor Alex’s legacy and are not political in nature.
