Marion commissioners OK special use permit for popular liquor store in Fort McCoy

Marion County commissioners approved a special use permit on Tuesday afternoon that would allow a new owner to continue operating the Ft. McCoy Liquor Store.

Marion County commissioners approved a special use permit Tuesday for the proposed new owner of the Ft. McCoy Liquor Store.

The permit allows for packaged liquor sales to be consumed off-site from the multi-tenant building, which is located at 11516 E County Road 316. The liquor store is in a regional business zoning district and is within 500 feet of Cougar Park and Fort McCoy Church of God. The change in ownership for the business and property is pending.

The liquor store has been operating at its current location for about three years with no reported negative impacts. And county staff reported that the business is “clean and organized and appears to be in good working order.”

This map shows the location of the Ft. McCoy Liquor Store, which is located at 11516 E County Road 316.

The special use permit calls for liquor sales to be limited to the hours of 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The permit stays with the owner and not the property. And it will terminate upon closure or sale of the business, with the new owner being required to re-apply for the special permit to continue operating the business.
