Ocala woman arrested after police K-9 dog turns traffic stop sour

Ann Marie Groover

An Ocala woman was arrested Wednesday night after a traffic stop didn’t go her way.

An Ocala Police officer stopped 49-year-old Ann Marie Groover in the 2300 block of NW Old Blitchton Road after he saw her run a stop sign. The officer requested a K-9 unit to respond to the traffic stop and a few minutes later the dog alerted on Groover’s white Toyota during an open air sniff, indicating the likely presence of illegal drugs, a police report states.

Officers then removed Groover and her male passenger from the vehicle. They conducted a search and found a backpack in the trunk belonging to Groover. Inside, officers located a green 305’s cigarette box that contained a crack pipe and a white rock-like substances that field tested positive for cocaine, the report says.

After being placed in handcuffs and read her rights, Groover admitted that the pipe found in the cigarette box belonged to her. She told officers she occasionally smokes crack. And she said she didn’t realize pieces of crack were still in the cigarette box, the report says.

Groover was transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. She was released Wednesday night on $3,000 bond and her next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.

Groover is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail four times since January 2017. During that time she has faced charges of retail petit theft, grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft and unarmed burglary of an unoccupied residence.
