Ocala woman jailed on DUI and drug charges after vehicle crash

Eleonor Trani

An Ocala woman was arrested on DUI and drug possession charges after a vehicle crash Wednesday morning on State Road 40 in Silver Springs.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the breath of Eleonor Trani, 41, of 2680 SW 154th Place Road. The trooper also noticed Trani had bloodshot and watery eyes and her speech was slurred, according to the FHP arrest report.

Trani refused to speak with the trooper about the crash and would not consent to perform field sobriety exercises. Based on the trooper’s observations, she was placed under arrest for DUI with property damage. Trani had caused damage to a utility trailer that was parked on the property, the report said.

A search of Trani’s car turned up two large open cans of Redds Wicked Apple Beer that she had bagged up and placed on a passenger side floorboard. Two unopened cans were also in the vehicle. The odor of burnt marijuana was coming from the vehicle and, upon searching Trani’s black purse, two unburnt rolled marijuana cigarettes and one burnt marijuana cigarette were found, according to the report.

Once at the Marion County Jail, Trani agreed to a breath-alcohol test, which registered levels of 0.71 and 0.65 – both under the legal limit. The trooper believed her level of intoxication had decreased between the time of the accident and the time of the breath test. Trani refused to provide a urine sample for testing for marijuana, the report said.

Trani was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, in addition to the DUI charge. She was released from jail Wednesday night on $1,500 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 29.
