Sinkhole causes 1.5 million gallons of reuse water to spill in Ocala

Ocala’s Water Resources Department experienced a spill of public access reuse water on Saturday.

The spill, which occurred at the city’s Groundwater Wetland Recharge Park at 2201 NW 21st St. near the Pine Oaks Golf Course, involved approximately 1.5 million gallons of public access reuse water. It has since been contained.

The water involved in the spill has been treated and presents no danger to the public or surrounding area, city officials said. The spill was caused when a sinkhole, which is slated for repair, formed in a wetland cell.
