Ocala woman without a driver’s license arrested after giving false name to police

Kavonda K. Williams

An Ocala woman was charged with giving a false name to law enforcement and driving without a license after being pulled over Thursday.

An Ocala Police officer ran the license tag of a white Ford Fusion that was leaving the Wawa on South Pine Avenue and saw the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended license. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the driver of the Ford pulled into Pine Plaza and stopped in front of Zone fitness, according to the OPD report.

When the officer approached the vehicle, she found one woman in the front passenger seat and another in the rear passenger seat. Nobody was in the driver’s seat, although nobody had exited the vehicle. Both women said they didn’t have driver’s licenses. The one in the front passenger seat provided her Florida ID card, while the other gave a name and birth date of a woman whose photo in the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) did not look like the woman in the vehicle, the report said.

The officer told the woman giving a false name to law enforcement is an arrestable offense and said she had someone on the way with Rapid ID to run her fingerprints. The woman then pulled her ID out of her bra and was identified as 24-year-old Kavonda K. Williams. A records search showed Williams had warrants out of Lake County for violation of probation and Alachua County for failure to appear, according to the report.

While another officer was checking surveillance video at Wawa to see who was driving, Williams spontaneously admitted she was the one who was behind the wheel. She was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she remained Monday. Her bond amount was not available, and she’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 16.
