Thurman Gordon Kingsley

Thurman Gordon Kingsley, 74, passed away on August 3, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 12, 1945 in Ocala to the late Reginald Gordon and Agnes Williams Kingsley.

After graduating from Ocala High School in 1963, he went on to earn a BA in Education from the University of Florida. He then taught Social Studies at Dunnellon Junior High for a year before joining the U.S. Navy. Thurman served in the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War; after his discharge he returned home and worked with his father before establishing his own construction business.

He built and worked on many homes and community projects in McIntosh and the surrounding area. He prided himself in delivering “Quality at a Fair Price.” He often enjoyed taking his friends and family on a tour around town to see these projects such as the gazebo at Van Ness Park, the bridge over the creek at the McIntosh Cemetery, and the McIntosh United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Thurman had a life-long love of hunting and fishing, and enjoyed woodworking in his shop in later years. He served as a member of the McIntosh Town Council from 2002 until 2019.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Reginald Franklin Kingsley. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judy Strange Kingsley; daughters, Kimberly A. Kingsley and Kelly Kingsley Hannah; sister, Linda Avis and six grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah and Noelle Wood and Amelia, Charlotte and Alexandra Hannah.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8th, 2019 at the McIntosh United Methodist Church, McIntosh, FL, with Reverend Al Beck and Reverend Al Bryan officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the McIntosh Cemetery. Guests are welcome to join the family for a reception afterwards at the Fellowship Hall at the McIntosh United Methodist Church.
