Fort King hosting wild mushroom hike for fungi enthusiasts

Fort King will play host to local fungi enthusiasts for a wild mushroom hike on Saturday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The park will welcome the Florida Academic Lichen and Fungi Enthusiasts League (F.A.L.A.F.A.L.) to lead the hike through the 42 acres of Fort King’s paths.  Attendees will learn all about the Lichen and Fungi that exist in the area, with the possibility of encountering some edible mushrooms along the way.

The program is free and open to all ages. The hike is based on a lecture, so appropriate dress is encouraged. Attendees are also encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, and bug repellent. For more information, visit Fort King’s website.
