Fort McCoy woman charged with battering elderly man

Melissa Leann Lindsey

A 27-year-old Fort McCoy woman was arrested for allegedly battering a 73-year-old man during a dispute over his desire to sell his property.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he and Melissa Leann Lindsey live in separate residences on his property on East Highway 316. He said Lindsey came to his residence to borrow $20, and after he gave her the money, they got into dispute over him wanting to sell the property, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he repeatedly asked Lindsey to leave, but she didn’t and the disturbance turned physical. He said Lindsey placed her hands around his neck but didn’t restrict his airway. He said she also struck him on the left forearm. The deputy observed and photographed the injury, the report said.

Lindsey denied causing injury to the victim, according to the report. She was charged with battery of a victim 65 years or older and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she’s being held on $500 bond. Lindsey will appear in Marion County Court on Sept. 24.
