Ocala man charged with DUI after 3-vehicle crash

Jason Bumgarner

An Ocala man was arrested early Sunday on a DUI charge after allegedly causing a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 200 and SW 17th Street.

Jason R. Bumgarner, 39, was driving westbound on S.R. 200 in a black 2014 Nissan when he rear-ended a white 2014 Ford that was stopped for a red light at SW 17th Street. The impact pushed the Ford into the rear of a silver 2014 Dodge SUV that was also at the light, according to the Ocala Police report.

The police investigation revealed there were no skid marks or ABS marks from the Nissan prior to the impact. The drivers of the Ford and Dodge both identified Bumgarner as the driver of the Nissan, the report said.

The investigating officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on Bumgarner’s breath and noticed his words were noticeably slurred as he spoke. Bumgarner was swaying as he stood and spoke with the officer, according to the report.

Bumgarner failed a series of field sobriety exercises and was charged with DUI with property damage (second offense). He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where a breath-alcohol test showed levels of .201 and .211. He was released Monday on $2,000 bond.
