Ocala woman jailed after nasty skirmish with scratched-up man friend

Sheila Rae Pavelec

An Ocala woman who got violently upset because of the way her guy pal was talking to one of her friends on the phone ended up behind bars Sunday night.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a home on SW 5th Place and when he arrived, 59-year-old Sheila Rae Pavelec said she got into a verbal altercation with the man over how he was speaking to one of her friends. She said she the man had been staying with her “off and on” and she told him he needed to leave. She claimed he then put his hands around her neck and started to choke her while she was grabbing some of his items, so she pushed him away, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies didn’t notice any redness or marks on the woman’s neck. She was examined by personnel from Marion County Fire Rescue, who also didn’t find any signs of injury, the report says.

Deputies then spoke with the man, who confirmed he was speaking with one of Pavelec’s friends when she got upset and a verbal altercation broke out. The man said she then started grabbing his belongings and telling him he needed to leave, the report says.

The man claimed that as he started to gather his items, Pavelec slapped him across the face and grabbed him by the arms to make him exit the residence. He said he didn’t touch her during the incident, the report says.

Deputies noted the man’s face was red and he had scratch marks on his neck and arms. When asked about the scratches, he said Pavelec caused them while she was trying to get him to leave her residence, the report says.

Pavelec was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with battery. She was released Sunday night on $500 bond and is due in court on Oct. 10 at 8 a.m.
