Ocala man jailed after nasty domestic spat in driveway

Julian Mesa

An Ocala man was arrested after a nasty spat with a woman who questioned him about his drug use.

Julian Mesa, 30, of SW 38th Terrace Road, was charged with simple domestic battery after the altercation, which happened Tuesday morning in the driveway of residence he and the victim share.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Mesa was gone all night doing illegal drugs. She said she and Mesa got into an argument inside his truck about his use of drugs, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Mesa aggressively tried to remove her from the truck, pulling her by her hair and arms. She said Mesa threw her down, causing her neck to hit the ground, and then struck her with an object – possibly her son’s shoe. The victim admitted to ripping Mesa’s shirt and scratching his neck in self-defense, the report said.

The deputy observed several injuries on the victim, including a scratch mark near her right hip, a red welt in the shape of a shoe on her right buttock, a red mark on the left side of her neck, and several bruises on both of her arms. Mesa had scratch marks on his neck and his shirt was ripped, according to the report.

Mesa said all he was trying to do was leave for work and the victim refused to get out of his vehicle. He denied ever being physical with her and said she attacked her, the report said.

Mesa was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Wednesday on $1,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 10.
