Marion County schools announce new schedule following Hurricane Dorian closures

Schools in Marion County will reopen Thursday following closures for Hurricane Dorian.

Superintendent Dr. Heidi Maier originally had announced that schools would be closed for the entire week when it was uncertain how Dorian would impact the local area. In addition, four schools across the county were opened as shelters for area residents.

But Dorian’s impacts were minimal in the local area – small amounts of rain and light winds. The storm has since moved up the East Coast and is heading for Georgia and the Carolinas. That prompted the closure of all shelters and allowed the school district to reverse course and reopen all schools.
