A 53-year-old Ocala woman was killed in a head-on collision early Monday morning in Marion County.
Christina Riley Sheets was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 6:35 a.m. crash on County Road 314 near NE 120th Terrace. Witnesses reported that she had been veering in and out of the northbound lane when her 2015 Volkswagen Jetta slammed into an oncoming 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 27-year-old Silvestre Mendoza, of Pomona Park, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Mendoza, who was wearing a seatbelt, was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Sheets wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, the report says.
The crash remains under investigation and it hasn’t been determined if alcohol was involved, the report says.
