Dunnellon man charged with strangling woman during nasty spat

Stanley A. Larrabee

A 41-year-old Dunnellon man locked himself inside his house after he allegedly tried to strangle a woman during an argument Saturday night.

Stanley A. Larrabee, of SW 59th Lane, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation. The man who reported the incident told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that an eyewitness called him and said Larrabee had battered the victim and locked himself inside the house, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she arrived at the home around 4 p.m. and observed Larrabee had been drinking, according to the sheriff’s office report. She said she was in her bedroom at around 10 p.m. when Larrabee started yelling at her and threw multiple beer cans at her. She said she went into the living room, and Larrabee followed her and slapped her with an open hand in her face multiple times, the report said.

The victim said Larrabee then grabbed her by the throat and held her against the couch. She said her airway was constricted and she couldn’t breathe. The victim said the witness yelled for them to stop fighting and this was when Larrabee released her, according to the report.

The deputy observed a hematoma on the victim’s right eyelid and redness on her face. The victim also had red marks on her neck consistent with Larrabee choking her, the report said.

The witness said he was in his room and heard Larrabee and the victim arguing and items being thrown around. He said the arguing stopped for a short time before resuming. The witness said he left his room and began walking towards the side door to exit the house. He said he yelled multiple times for Larrabee and the victim to stop fighting and then walked to the roadway to call the reportee, according to the report.

The reportee opened the house door and two deputies entered and made contact with Larrabee, who said he put his hands on the victim but did not give any more details. Larrabee was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on $5,000 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 8.
