A man with a long criminal record accused of tossing a frozen drink on a woman is behind bars after an altercation at a Silver Springs minimart.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to the Circle K at 5182 E Silver Springs Blvd. on Monday afternoon and when he arrived, a woman said she had been in an altercation with 34-year-old Craig Raymond Leaming. She said he punched her vehicle several times and threw his drink on her because he believes she stole items from him, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that Leaming left the convenience store in a black vehicle.
An eyewitness confirmed the woman’s story and said he had seen them in the area of the minimart in the past. Another witness said he saw Leaming throw the drink at the woman. And video surveillance footage from the Circle K showed the entire incident as the woman had explained it, the report says.
The deputy went to the Royal Manor Apartments, located at 2644 NE 52nd Court, and spoke with Leaming’s girlfriend. She said she was at the Circle K with him but didn’t see what happened. But she said Leaming told her he threw the drink in the woman’s face and then ran away from the apartment when they returned home, the report says.
Deputies located Leaming on Tuesday night and he was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with battery. He is being held on no bond and is due in court Oct. 22 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
Leaming is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail 10 times since December 2005 on a litany of theft and drug charges. He also was arrested on July 12 and charged with driving with license suspended or revoked (third or subsequent offense).
