Silver Springs man accused of exposing himself to kids at mobile home park

Michael P. Mahoney

A 35-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself in front of neighbors, including children, at the Lindale Mobile Home Park in Silver Springs.

In addition to seven counts of indecent exposure, Michael P. Mahoney also was charged with battering two adult female neighbors who confronted him and resisting the Marion County sheriff’s deputy who had to tase him during the arrest.

The deputy responded Thursday to the trailer park, located at 5431 NE 35th Street, where one of the victims said she was sitting on her porch with another woman while their children were playing in the street. She said Mahoney appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when he approached her children and started yelling at them, according to the sheriff’s office report.

When another woman approached Mahoney to ask why he was yelling at the children, he started yelling insults. A man then approached him to de-escalate the situation and ask him to leave the area, and Mahoney became belligerent and pulled his black basketball shorts to his knees, clearly exposing his sexual organs before going into his residence. The exposure was witnessed by three adult and four juvenile victims, the report said.

Mahoney returned and approached one of the adult victims, who was standing in the road in front of her residence. They got into a verbal argument and Mahoney grabbed her by the chest and throat area and picked her up off the ground. Another victim approached the pair to break up the fight when Mahoney dropped the first victim and picked up the second victim by her chest and throat area, lifting her off the ground. One of the victims told Mahoney that law-enforcement was called, and he walked back to his residence and sat on the porch, according to the report.

The deputy tried to approach Mahoney at his residence, but he quickly went inside and would not come out to speak. Mahoney’s mother was outside when the deputy approached and said she was locked out. Several other deputies responded and were given permission by Mahoney’s mother to force their way in, which they finally did through a rear window, the report said.

Mahoney walked aggressively towards one of the deputies, who deployed his electronic disabling advice, which had little effect. Deputies managed to restrain Mahoney, who became compliant as they placed him in handcuffs, according to the report.

Mahoney was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was still being held Sunday on $11,700 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 22.
