Hair-throwing woman jailed after spat at Salt Springs rec area

Amy Michelle Painter

A woman living in a camper at the Salt Springs Recreation Area was arrested Saturday night for allegedly cutting her hair off and throwing it at a man and biting him during a nasty domestic dispute.

Amy Michelle Painter, 51, was charged with simple domestic assault after the incident, which happened around 10 p.m. at the campground, located at 13751 N. Hwy. 19 in Fort McCoy.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was sleeping in his bed when Painter woke him up and started throwing hair at him and attacking him. He said Painter hit him several times on his chest and arms and bit him on the right hand, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy observed several cuts on the victim’s right hand and fingers where he said Painter bit him. He did not have any other visible injuries. The deputy walked through the residence and observed numerous clumps of hair scattered throughout the camper and around the victim’s bed, the report said.

At first, Painter said there was never any altercation and she denied throwing her hair at the victim. She later admitted she got into an argument with him about staying at the campground through the winter months. Painter also admitted throwing her hair at the victim while he was in bed but denied hitting or biting him, according to the report.

Painter was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was being held Monday on $500 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Sept. 25.
