An 18-month-old child was killed early Monday afternoon when she was accidentally struck by an SUV driven by her grandmother.
Ocala Police officers responded to a traffic crash on SW 2nd Street and when they arrived, they discovered that the child, Paris Lecorn, had been struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander driven by her grandmother, Joleen Ellis, in the driveway of their home.
Ellis was attempting to move the SUV in order to allow another vehicle to leave her property. She wasn’t aware that her granddaughter was on the driveway and as she moved the Uplander several feet, the vehicle struck the child, an Ocala Police report states.
When officers and EMS units arrived, Lecorn was unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It hasn’t been determined how the child got onto the driveway in front of the vehicle before being hit. The accident is being investigated as an accident, the report says.
