Ocala woman jailed after admitting to smacking 67-year-old man with rod

Gloria J. Mitchell

An Ocala woman was arrested Tuesday after admitted to battering a 67-year-old man a few days earlier.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy spoke with Gloria J. Mitchell, who also is 67, at her residence. She said had been in a verbal altercation with the man and when he “went too far with his words,” she him hit with a rod at least three or four times in the area around his face and shoulders, the report says, adding that the incident took place on Friday, Oct. 25.

The man told the deputy that he was arguing with Mitchell when she started hitting him with the rod. He showed the deputy bruises on his right arm and on the right side of his stomach. The deputy noted that some of the bruises had discoloration and one on his stomach appeared to be red and purple, the report says.

Mitchell was then arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older. She was being held on $1,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
