A Micanopy man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly battered a woman during a domestic altercation over a set of car keys.
Jerald Anthony Gibson, 44, of NW 59th Avenue, was charged with battery (second or subsequent offense). He was previously convicted of aggravated battery in 1994 in Alachua County.
The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Gibson were having a verbal argument when Gibson grabbed her vehicle keys. She said she tried to retrieve them from Gibson’s pocket and he pushed her with his hands on her chest. The victim said she and Gibson fell to the ground, and upon standing up they both began punching each other, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The deputy observed the victim had a swollen left eyebrow and Gibson had a small cut on the left side of his upper lip. Gibson said the incident was just a verbal argument.
Gibson was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on $500 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 10.
