Combative Ocala man accused of choking lady friend during jealous rage

Corey Adrien Betz

A confrontational and scorned Ocala man was jailed Tuesday after hurling cheating accusations at his lady friend.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on NW Gainesville Road and when they arrived, the woman told them that she had gotten into a physical altercation with 36-year-old Corey Adrien Betz. She said the battle had taken place two days earlier and she was in the process of trying to move out of the residence, a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman said Betz had accused her of cheating and had thrown her against a refrigerator inside the residence. She said he had choked her but she was still able to breathe during the attack, the report says, adding that deputies observed redness and bruising on the woman’s neck and upper chest area and a bruise on her right bicep.

Betz, who was confrontational with the woman and deputies, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was released Thursday on $500 bond and is due in court on Dec. 3 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
