Satsuma man killed in three-vehicle head-on crash in Marion County

A Satsuma man was killed in a three-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Marion County.

Kenneth Hammond, 59, was pronounced dead at Ocala Regional Medical Center after the 5:48 a.m. crash on U.S. Hwy. 441 near NW 95th Street. He had been traveling south when his 1998 Kia Sephia was hit head-on by a northbound 2008 Lincoln Mark LT pickup truck after it’s driver, 51-year-old Mark Murch, of Ocala, lost control of his vehicle, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

A 2008 Kia Spectra, driven by 57-year-old Janet Morton, couldn’t stop in time and crashed into the left side of Hammond’s vehicle and then the right side of Murch’s pickup, the FHP report says.

Morton, of Reddick, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. A 5-year-old passenger in Hammond’s vehicle also suffered serious injuries and was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital. Murch received minor injuries and was transported to Advent Health Ocala, the report says, adding that charges are pending and alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the crash.
