Ocala woman accused of threatening man with knife

Yolanda Yvette Denmark

An Ocala woman was jailed recently after she allegedly forced her way into a man’s home and threatened him with a kitchen knife.

Yolanda Yvette Denmark, 48, of 2545 NE 49th Ave., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was asleep and heard a noise coming from outside his residence, but he didn’t think anything of it. He said he then heard banging at his front door and someone announcing they were police and that he needed to open the door, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said the voice sounded familiar and he soon realized it was Denmark’s. He said Denmark kept banging on the door until a piece of wood where the window used to be came off. He said Denmark reached through the window area, unlocked the door from the inside and partially came into the residence, the report said.

The victim said Denmark raised a kitchen knife with her right hand in an aggressive manner and demanded her blanket, which was in the home. The victim said he was in fear for his life, and that he grabbed the blanket, pushed it through the window hole, and told Denmark to leave and that he was calling 911, according to the report.

The victim said Denmark returned to her vehicle and left the location. He said this isn’t the first time she has tried to break into his home and that they have been in previous physical altercations. The victim said if he had not awakened, he believes Denmark might have killed him or hurt him badly, the report said.

The deputy tried to call Denmark on the phone but she didn’t pick up. Denmark then texted the deputy, asking who it was, and the deputy identified himself. Denmark didn’t text back and blocked the deputy’s number, according to the report.

The deputy knocked on Denmark’s door and she didn’t answer. She finally opened the door when a K-9 unit responded. Denmark said she went to the victim’s home to ask for money and was unable to make contact with him, so she left, the report said.

Denmark was released Wednesday on $10,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 17.
