Area residents warned about dangers of feeding Thanksgiving meal to pets

Area pet owners are being warned about the dangers of feeding Thanksgiving treats to their animals.

A variety of items that could be on holiday tables aren’t considered safe for pets. Those include:

  • Turkey skin;
  • Turkey bones;
  • Gravy;
  • Stuffing;
  • Sage;
  • Raisins/grapes;
  • Onions;
  • Garlic;
  • Nutmeg;
  • Nuts;
  • Mushrooms;
  • Fat Trimmings;
  • Corn on the cob;
  • Chocolate;
  • Candied yams;
  • Butter;
  • Bread dough; and
  • Alcohol.

Items from the Thanksgiving meal that are acceptable for pets include:

  • Turkey (light meat only);
  • Cranberry sauce;
  • Mashed potatoes (no butter);
  • Sweet potatoes;
  • Green beans;
  • Pumpkin; and
  • Apple slices.
