71-year-old Ocklawaha man behind bars after nasty tiff over making a repair

Lawrence Edwin Calley

An Ocklawaha man found himself behind bars Sunday after a nasty altercation with a woman over “how to fix something.”

The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that she was sitting on a couch when 71-year-old Lawrence Edwin Calley became angry and grabbed her right arm near the bicep area. She said he then flipped a coffee table over and she went out the back door of her residence and flagged down a neighbor for help, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said the neighbor invited her to his house to get her away from Calley until deputies arrived. Deputies also noted that the victim’s bicep area was “red and slightly bruised,” the report says.

Deputies responded to the victim’s residence and made contact with Calley. He admitted to flipping over the coffee table and grabbing the victim by the hair. But he claimed she was “taunting” him, the report says.

Calley was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was being held on $100 bond and is due in court Dec. 27 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
