Marion Commissioners honor county’s fire marshal for prestigious post

Marion County commissioners paid tribute Tuesday to the county’s fire marshal.

Marion County Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Ken McCann, center, was recognized Tuesday by county commissioners Carl Zalak, Jeff Gold, Kathy Bryant, Michelle Stone and David Moore, as well as Fire Chief James Banta.

Ken McCann, who is a part of Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR), was presented with a certificate of recognition at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting. He was sworn in Nov. 4 as the Northeast Regional Director of the Florida Fire Marshals and Investigators Association. The appointment recognizes his leadership and work ethic throughout the year, all while maintaining a 24/7 response readiness.

Under McCann’s management and guidance, MCFR’s Prevention Division has completed 2,037 fire safety building inspections, 659 hours of fire investigations and 3,002 reviews of construction plans.
