City installing automatic water reading meters for 15,000 residents

The City of Ocala Water Resources Department has begun the process of replacing 15,000 water meters for residents within city limits.

The new meters will provide automatic readings and give customers increased awareness of their water usage. The new system will ping the meters for reads every four hours, which will help customers identify leaks and water loss sooner, a feature not previously possible before the upgrades.

The installations began on Wednesday, December 4, and are scheduled to run through April 30, 2020.

Customers will be notified the day before their new meter installation with a door hanger. On the day of installation, an attempt will be made by the contractor to let the home owner know of a temporary water shut off while the installation occurs.

Installations will take place Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will not occur on any City recognized holidays. Due to inclement weather some installations may occur on Saturdays.

For questions, call the City of Ocala Water Resources Department at 352-351-6772.
