An Ocala woman with two children in her vehicle was charged with drunk driving after being pulled over for having an obstructed license plate.
April Marie Olsen, 40, of 10 Almond Trail, was charged with DUI with a BAC over .15 and with passengers under 18. She was pulled over by Marion County sheriff’s deputies on Banyan Road shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.
A deputy immediately observed several indicators of impairment, including glassy and bloodshot eyes, and slow and slurred speech. The deputy smelled the distinct odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. When asked if she had anything to drink, Olsen said she had one beer about two hours earlier, according to the sheriff’s office report.
Olsen agreed to perform a series of field sobriety exercises, which she failed. There were two passengers in the vehicle under the age of 18, the report said.
Olsen was taken to the Marion County Jail, where a breathalyzer test came back with results of .168 and .160. She was released Monday on her own recognizance.
