Entertainment and activities on tap for upcoming First Friday Art Walk

The First Friday Art Walk is coming back to downtown Ocala.

The event is planned for Friday, Jan. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include the following special performances and activities:

  • Live music by Christopher Dolan on the main event stage;
  • Dance performances during intermissions at 7 and 8 p.m. provided by Honey’s School of Dance;
  • Free hands-on art activities and demonstrations for all ages provided by Discovery Center; Appleton Museum of Art; Ocala Chippers; Brick City Bicycles; Ocala Art Group; Ocala Calligraphy; Bogin, Munns & Munns; Alchemy Tattoo and Fine Art; and Marion County Public Library.

In recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, the public is invited to participate in the Red Sand Project with Marion Cultural Alliance during the event. Participants will fill cracks in the sidewalks around the Square with bright red sand to create a visual reminder of the millions of people around the world who have fallen through the cracks of our society and become trapped and hidden in slavery.

The First Friday Art Walk takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, September through May. Located within Ocala’s historic downtown, event festivities include more than 40 artist displays, live entertainment, free family art activities, arts organizations, galleries and extended shopping hours. Free bicycle parking at the downtown square is provided by sponsor Brick City Bicycles.
