Trailer-pulling man charged with driving with suspended license and expired tags

Mark Joseph McDonald

A Silver Springs man was charged with knowingly driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over for having an expired trailer tag.

Mark Joseph McDonald, 36, of 1143 SE 159th Court, was pulling a red trailer with a black Chevy Trailblazer at the intersection of SE 183rd Road and East Highway 40 on Monday afternoon when a Marion County sheriff’s deputy conducted a computer check that showed the trailer’s tag had been expired since 2018 and the registered owner – McDonald – has a suspended license, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy saw McDonald behind the wheel and recognized him from a traffic stop two weeks earlier, when McDonald was issued a notice to appear and cited for driving with a license suspended for failure to pay insurance. The deputy pulled McDonald over, and a computer check showed his license was suspended in December 2018 and the vehicle tag expired in March, the report said.

McDonald was taken to the Marion County Jail. He was sentenced to two weeks in jail and will be released Dec. 30.
