Drug suspect who gave false name identified by face and neck tattoos

Nicolas Porfirio Nino

An Ocala man who gave deputies a false name was arrested on drug and other charges after he was later identified by his face and neck tattoos.

Nicolas Porfirio Nino, 34, of 4960 NE 25th Place, Apt. E3, is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail after being charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, giving a false ID to law enforcement, resisting an officer without violence, and violating his probation.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Dec. 17, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a suspicious person, later identified as Nino, riding a bicycle with no visible lights on the front or rear behind Darrel’s Diner at 5125 E. Silver Springs Blvd. The deputy stopped Nino because the restaurant was closed and is in a high-crime area, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Nino told the deputy his name was Christopher Peter Vanguare and gave a birthdate of Oct. 29, 1979. The deputy had Nino confirm the information multiple times before allowing him to go. A short time later, another deputy was able to confirm Nino’s identity by the distinct tattoos on his face, neck and hands. A records search showed Nino had an active warrant for violating his probation for criminal mischief in Alachua County, the report said.

Two deputies and a sheriff’s office K-9 went to Nino’s address to find him. As they were approaching the front door, Nino opened it, saw the deputies and immediately ran back inside. He was given several verbal commands to stop, which he failed to follow, according to the report.

Deputies tried to place Nino in handcuffs while he was standing and he tried to resist by pulling away and refusing to place his hands behind his back. The deputies took him to the ground and he continued to resist. At that point, K-9 Nitro was used to gain control of Nino’s arm and he was arrested without further incident, the report said.

Nino continued to say his name was Christopher and that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend was named Nicolas and he previously lived at the residence. Officers patted down Nino and found a black pouch in his pants pocket that contained a white crystal-like substance in a clear plastic bag, a green leafy substance in another clear plastic bag, and several cigarette butts, according to the report.

Nino told the deputies the white crystal substance was possibly “Molly,” and the green leafy substance was “weed.” A field test confirmed the substances were methamphetamine and THC/marijuana, the report said.

Nino is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 21.
