Ocklawaha woman jailed after spat with elderly family member

Ruthann Bernice Wolfe

A 45-year-old Ocklawaha woman was arrested after she allegedly battered an elderly family member who didn’t want her spending the night in her house.

Ruthann Berniece Wolfe was charged with aggravated domestic battery on a person 65 years of age or older after the altercation, which happened Sunday night.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Wolfe came home from work and started cursing and yelling at her. The victim said she told Wolfe she needed to sleep in her vehicle because she and her husband couldn’t take the verbal abuse, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Wolfe came to the door again and said she would be sleeping in her “(expletive deleted) car.” The victim said she told Wolfe alright and opened the door. She said once Wolfe was inside, she shoved her into the wall and told her, “now try to make me leave,” the report said.

The deputy observed scratch marks on both of the victim’s forearms. When asked how she got the marks, she said a pet caused the injury. The victim said she wanted to pursue charges in this case because Wolfe had gotten physical with her approximately three times in the past and law enforcement wasn’t called, according to the report.

The victim’s husband said Wolfe came into the home and got into a verbal altercation with the victim. He said the commotion caused him to have chest pain, which led to the victim telling Wolfe she had to stay outside. The victim’s husband said Wolf grabbed the front door, injuring the victim. He said once Wolfe got back into the residence, she shoved the victim, almost knocking over the plants that were sitting behind the couch, the report said.

Wolfe told the deputy she only got into a verbal dispute with the victim and that she never put her hands on her. Wolfe said she had a video of the altercation on her phone, but when asked to show it, she then said she didn’t have the camera on, according to the report.

Wolfe was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Monday on her own recognizance. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 4.
