Ocala woman and Good Samaritan die after fiery crash in Marion County

An Ocala woman and a Good Samaritan died Friday afternoon as the result of a fiery crash in Marion County.

A 2015 Cadillac Escalade driven by 69-year-old Susan Scott was traveling south on County Road 225A at about 2 p.m. when it suddenly veered onto the grassy shoulder of the roadway and slammed into a tree. The vehicle caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Henry Danielson, 63, of Belleview was driving a construction water truck north on CR 225A and stopped to render help. He was attempting to extinguish the blaze via use of a nearby fire hydrant when he went into cardiac arrest, the report says.

Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Scott dead at the scene. Danielson was transported to West Marion Community Hospital in Ocala, where he was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m.

FHP Investigators are attempting to determine if Scott’s crash may have been caused by a medical issue. Danielson was being lauded Friday afternoon for his heroic attempt to save Scott’s life.
