Violent spit-laden spat with lady friend lands Ocala man behind bars

Dimitrios Ioannis Fassoulas

An Ocala man with a hefty arrest record was jailed Thursday after a nasty spat with his lady friend as she attempted to get some of her belongings and go to her sister’s house.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence on NW 134th Court, where 48-year-old Dimitrios Ioannis Fassoulas claimed the woman had scratched him during an argument. Deputies observed that his gray tank top was ripped and he had minor scratches on his right arm near the bicep and on the right side of his chest, a sheriff’s office report states.

Fassoulas told deputies he said “(expletive deleted) you” to the woman, then spit on her and threw her to the ground. He said she continued to scratch him after he spit on her, the report says.

The woman said Fassoulas had come to the residence from across the street and started yelling and cursing at her. She claimed he spit in her face and threw her to the ground. She added that his shirt was ripped because she was grabbing at him when he threw her, the report says.

Deputies observed an injury to the woman’s left hand which consisted of two of her fingernails being ripped off. She also had a scrape on her left ankle, which she said happened when Fassoulas threw her and she hit the side of the porch, the report says.

While speaking with a deputy, Fassoulas attempted to approach the woman, who he had lived with for about two and a half years. He yelled at her and called her a derogatory name and said, “I’ll spit on you again.” He was told to back away from the woman, which he did. But he continued to flip her off and curse at her while stating multiple times that he would spit on her again, the report says.

Fassoulas was then placed under arrest and he once again flipped off the woman and continued to yell “(expletive deleted) you.” He was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with battery.

Fassoulas, who has been held in the jail 15 times since March 1996 on a litany of charges, was released late Friday night on $2,000 bond. He is due in court on Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.
