Two-vehicle crash in Marion County leaves two Dunnellon residents seriously injured

Two Dunnellon motorists were injured in a crash early Wednesday afternoon in Marion County.

The incident took place at 2:05 p.m. when a 2004 Silver Chevrolet driven 66-year-old David F. Michael was traveling south on U.S. 41 and veered onto the shoulder. Michael’s vehicle then went back to the left and into the northbound travel lane, where it was hit in the right side by a 1998 Chevrolet Astro van driven by 44-year-old Jennifer A. Lassiter, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Both vehicles came to rest on the east shoulder of U.S. 41 about a mile north of State Road 40. Both drivers were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center as trauma alerts. Michael’s condition was listed as critical and Lassiter’s as serious on Wednesday night.
Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation into the crash. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor, the FHP report states.
