New café preparing to open its doors at popular spot in Hollywood 16 Plaza

A new café is preparing to open in a familiar spot in Ocala.

Beginning Feb. 1, The Gathering Café will take over in the location that was formerly occupied by Sips by JJ, located at 2601 SW 19th Avenue Rd. in the Hollywood 16 Plaza.

The Gathering Place is scheduled to open on Saturday, Feb. 1 and will replace Sips by JJ in the Hollywood 16 Plaza in Ocala.
Ocala resident Sarah M. Partee shows off her new café, The Gathering Place, which is located in the old Sips by JJ eatery at 2601 SW 19th Avenue Rd. in Ocala.

The new eatery is owned by Ocala resident Sarah M. Partee, who on Tuesday posted photos on her Facebook page of the new café’s sign, a specialty coffee, a breakfast dish and her smiling at the door of the establishment. The café promises to offer great coffee, delicious food and good company.

On her Florida Division of Corporations filing – also known as – Partee lists herself and fellow Ocala residents David E. and Teri L. Armstrong as managers of the business. The paperwork was filed this past Dec. 6 and lists the official name of the restaurant as The Gathering Room Café & Bakery, LLC.

The former occupant of the building, Sips by JJ, had been in business for four years. It offered gourmet coffees, macaroons, cupcakes, pastries, iced tea and smoothies and was open on weekdays and Saturday.

The asking price for the eatery was $49,900. It was listed by Dawn-Marie Crown with Transworld Business Brokers. She offered Realtors a “finder’s fee” of $3,000 if they brought a buyer to the table and the transaction was completed.

Tasty dishes appear to be on the horizon at The Gathering Place, a new café that will open at 2601 SW 19th Avenue Rd. on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Crown also handled the listings for the Cup O’ The Irish when it went up for sale for $45,000 in November and the Charlie Horse Restaurant and Lounge when it was put on the market for $799,000 in August. Cup O’ The Irish, located at 3323 SE Maricamp Rd. in the Maricamp Square Plaza, now houses Papa Pineapples, which offers freshly made Hawaiian taco dishes, burritos and popular rice bowls. It is owned by Scott Snyder and his wife, Natalie, of Summerfield and held its grand opening in December.
