Marion County Fire Rescue captain recovering after power line mishap while battling blaze

A Marion County Fire Rescue captain who was injured while battling a blaze that claimed the life of a Citra resident is expected to make a full recovery.

District Capt. Chris Hays was released from a local hospital and is recovering at home. He is expected to return to duty in the coming, a report states.

Hays was injured late Monday morning when he came in contact with a power line while firefighters battled a blaze at a residence in the 14000 block of N Magnolia Avenue in Citra. Multiple crews responded to the blaze after 911 callers reported the home as fully involved in flames, a resident was trapped inside and they were hearing explosions, the report says.

Forty-three firefighters and nine suppression units from Marion County Fire Rescue battled a blaze at a Citra home on Monday morning.

Forty-three firefighters from Engine Company #19, Golden Ocala Station #20, Fort McCoy Station #7, Anthony Station #1, Rolling Greens Station #28 and Meadowood Farms Station #12 were called to the blaze.

The entrapped victim was located and declared dead by firefighters shortly after 11:30 a.m. The name of the victim is being withheld pending official notification of next of kin.
