Ocala woman jailed after half of a pill found in cigar pack

Angela Michelle Martin

An Ocala woman was arrested on a drug charge after Marion County sheriff’s deputies found Oxycodone while investigating an altercation between her and her boyfriend.

Angela Michelle Martin, 40, was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription after the incident, which happened Monday morning at the Countryside Motel, 4224 NE Jacksonville Road. Martin and her boyfriend of 10 years live at the motel.

Deputies responded to the motel and found Martin and her boyfriend arguing outside. The separated the couple and investigated whether a crime had been committed, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Martin had a file folder and two black bags in her possession, which she allowed a deputy to look through. Inside the file folder was a red and black plastic cigar package that would typically hold two cigars. While picking up the package, the deputy felt a small hard object that seemed out of place and not for the package’s intended use, the report said.

The deputy opened the package and found half of a round white pill with the letters “RP” on it. A search using the pill finder website at drugs.com showed the pill was Oxycodone. A field test confirmed it was an opiate, according to the report.

Martin originally said the packages wasn’t hers and then said she may have picked it up as trash from the side of the road and put it in her file folder. The folder contained papers that Martin said belonged to her. Martin and her boyfriend both confirmed they didn’t have a prescription for any medication, the report said.

Martin’s boyfriend said she has a drug problem and frequently consumes pills. They both denied the were involved in a physical altercation before deputies arrived, according to the report.

Martin was booked into the Marion County Jail and is scheduled to be released on Feb. 20.
